Hilary Callcut - Biographical Notes

Hilary was born in Llandudno, North Wales and is glad to get back there from time to time to see the glorious mountains and seacoast.  She studied Fine Art at Newcastle University and has a very good eye for form and colour.

After teaching for some years, Hilary switched to I.T. Training and spent many years in the I.T. department at Islington Council seeing in each new change and authoring training materials across a wide range of software and hardware.  She retired early from Islington Council on the same day that Vin retired.   Together, Vin and Hilary enjoy a love of good food, travel and railroading both in this country and Colorado.

Since retiring, Hilary has been able to develop further her love of music and art. The piano repertoire has expanded considerably and she now plays on a  wonderful, restored Blüthner.   We’ve had the family piano stool fully restored - she’s been sitting on it for over 50 years,  well before her feet could reach the pedals.

She has developed considerable skills with watercolours and silk painting.  Here are some pictures of North Wales.

Hilary suffered a stroke on 10 May 2003 and spent several weeks in hospital.   She will publish her diary her in due course.  It is an account of what happened to her and will chart the progress she continues to make from being paralysed down the left side to being able to walk and play the piano again.
